Gallup, New Mexico U.S.A.
So in the month of August a friend and I decided to take a quick road trip to New Mexico. Our destination however was not the big city of Albuquerque but a smaller well know town (Gallup, New Mexico). Lucky we were able to arrive in time for the Annual Inter-Tribal Ceremonial.

Through the years I have traveled to or through the state for various reasons but never to enjoy something new. Before leaving I spoke with
friends and family to inquire on what they thought of visiting Gallup. Surprisingly the most common response I received was "of course we have been there, to get gas." So off we went to enjoy the city and not just to stop for gas.
From California to the southwest. Gallup is in the northwest of New Mexico not far from the Arizona border.
For a quick trip there is much to savor. The town’s events and attractions draw in visitors from all over the world.

In the month of August, Native Americans from all around the United States come to enjoy or participate in a massive Inter-tribal ceremonial. The Inter-Tribal events take place at the beautiful Red Rock State Park. You could easily plan to attend for several days since it is just a short ride from down town Gallup. The Inter-tribal Ceremonial has an all-Indian Rodeo, food, dances, arts-and-crafts expo and much more.
With plenty of places to choose from an overnight stay can be unique and great for the pocket book. They have modern hotel chains, to classic motels (the
ones you can find on old route 66 postcards) and yes even famous old Hollywood glamour hotels. Movie stars during Hollywood's heyday would stop at the El Rancho.
There is a blend of cultures and food like Zuni bread and Navajo tacos and countless other surprises. For instance throughout downtown magnificent murals catch the eye. The colorful murals painted on the sides of buildings tell the story of Gallup throughout time.
Downtown is perfect
for a stroll. Shop, eat or just meet people.
At specific times they host an evening
parade and daytime parade that is always invigorating.
Gallup is world famous for authentic Native American jewelry. Shopping at the world famous hub for Native American jewelry can be very exciting. You can check out the shops, hit the flea market or mingle with local artist. At any of these places you can also find arts, pottery etc. Driving around to find these spots is a delight to view the stunning natural sight.

favorite is the silver and turquoise pieces of jewelry.
Part of the jewelry scene on Highway 66 is a restaurant called
Earl’s. You can meet and greet with local artist any day of the week. There is
usually several vendors’ right outside the restaurant that enjoy a chat as well
as selling their stuff.
During the weekend, extended part of the shopping scene is
held at the local flea market. The Saturday Flea Market is located on N. Ninth
Street. Here is a fun walk around. Talk with the vendors and artists about

This place is a true trading post culture. You can purchase
a piece of jewelry directly from the artist who made it. Besides the annual
